Cambridge 2000: Murray Edwards College: Storey's Way: Hammond House, 69B
This is one of two buildings designed by the architects for
(what was then) New Hall. The other one (Clover House, 69A)
is situated to the north (left and behind, in the photo).
This is the larger of the two, with 12 student rooms. The
other house is single storey, because the site slopes upwards
in that direction, and so it only has 6 student rooms.
The houses lie at the eastern edge of the garden of the older
69 Storey's Way.
This side of the houses forms part of a circle, and
there was a plan at the time to build another three such
houses, continuing the circle about two thirds of the way
around, and with the addition of two houses for Fellows
at the corners. This would have provided a nice framing
of the garden. Like many such plans, it never happened.
Cambridge Design
were the supervising architects for the build.
