Cambridge 2000: Sylvester Road: Thurlow II, 9
David Thurlow had earlier designed a house (referred to as Thurlow I) in Great Shelford
for his family and this house on Sylvester Road (referred to as Thurlow II) was a
refinement of that earlier plan. The house was built on the southeast corner of the
garden of 7 Adams Road (and another house, 7A Adams Road, was built on the northeast
corner).
The aspect is to the south and the eastern half of the ground floor (to the right in
the photo) has floor to ceiling windows and doors (just visible through the foliage)
overlooking the garden. A garage, carport and studio were added a couple of years later
at the southeast corner of the garden (to the left of the photo).
The house was given a RIBA award in 1986.
