The suggested car park looks modernist and would certainly have been better than the awful car park which was eventually built in the 1970s. In particular the Lion Yard car park as built has a totally unattractive landscaping around it, and the 1950 proposal would have been far preferable in this regard and also for traffic management. The land at the southern end of the car park lay derelict for many years before an anodyne building containing a hotel was built there around 1991.
