Cambridge 2000: Grange Road: Pinehurst Flats
The building on the left is known as Manor Court, that on
the right Grange Court. The balconies save these
buildings from monotony. The flats are very exclusive,
largely occupied by older people, and a typical flat in
2000 would have cost around 300000 pounds (500000 Euros).
The grounds were quite large and inevitably three additional,
forgettable, blocks of flats were added in the 1960s and 1970s
(to the west) and more interestingly two additional blocks
were added in the 1990s (to the south),
Oast House
and
Redwood Lodge.
Before these flats were built there was a suitably grand
house (known as Pinehurst, hence the name) in the grounds
dating from the early 1880s. In the 1920s, after the
original owner (Charles Finch Foster) died, it was briefly
occupied by a boarding school for girls.
