Cambridge 2000: university: Chaucer Road: Joint Colleges Nursery, 6B
With more and more female researchers working at the university
and colleges the demand for nursery facilities has grown (it was not
considered to be such an issue for male researchers or female
non-researchers, which shows the cultural bias).
The design was done by David Yandell while he was at Hughes and Bicknell
and the work was finished when he left to set up Cambridge Architects
Partnership. An extension was added in 1995.
There is a university (as distinct from college) nursery school
just around the corner from this one, on Edwinstowe Close, and
that opened in 1992. That was also designed by Yandell.
