Cambridge 2000: Fitzroy Street: Habitat store
Description: Fitzroy Street: Habitat store |
Date built: 1903 |
One of the few buildings in the neighbourhood with an interesting
façade. The original occupant of the building was the
department store Laurie and McConnal, which moved to this site in
1883, and closed down in 1977. This building is a replacement for
an earlier one, which burned in 1903. The area on top was added
in 1909 and was originally a bandstand for live music.
Habitat vacated the building in 2007.
