Cambridge 2000: Fulbourn Road: Cambridge Water Company HQ
A stunning copper and glass wrapping around the 1935 brick
front façade of the building (the rest of the building
was demolished). The building was originally used for water
softening and the conversion was done to create a headquarters
for the company because of the move out of their previous one
on Rustat Road. The function of the original building meant
that there is a large water pipe running near the building
and the company uses this, via heat exchange, as a way of
cooling the office (this was proposed by engineers from Max
Fordham).
