Cambridge 2000: university: Trumpington Street: Department of Architecture
Located behind the
main department,
its chief purpose is to provide studio space. The studio
opened in October 2006 but the rest of the site, including
the landscaping, was still being worked on until the end of
2007.
The large north-facing windows provide good working light,
and this façade is the main architectural focal point.
Unfortunately this view of the building is only accessible
from inside the department.
The other, more public, south-facing side is not so welcoming,
although it only looks over the car park of the
Royal Cambridge Hotel.
Originally this side was supposed to have a balcony but budgetary
restrictions meant this was not built. And for the same reason,
solar panels were not installed on the roof, although the
south-facing tilt would have been perfect for this.
