Cambridge 2000: Jesus Green

Description: Jesus Green: line of Plane trees
Date built: c1913

Jesus Green is one of the more pleasant open areas in the city because it has this particularly beautiful row of London Plane trees (Platanus x acerifolia, Platanus x hispanica), which were planted around 1913.

The path between the two rows of trees connects Jesus Lock (behind the trees at the left in the photo) and Victoria Avenue.

It all looked rather different around a year later when some snow had fallen.

In Storm Ciara of 9 February 2020, the fifth tree on the north side (the side less visible in the photo) counting from the west (Jesus Lock) end, blew over, creating a gap in the row.
