Cambridge 2000: university: Trumpington Street: Fitzwilliam Museum
Avant garde for its day, and known for obvious reasons as the
"white cube", this would be considered a major feature
at most museums but languishes in obscurity largely hidden from
the outside world at the back of
the museum.
Originally the top
floor was supposed to have exhibitions but currently the whole
extension is used by museum staff.
This was supposed to be the first of three such cubes, but ten
years later when Roberts added another extension a more
conventional design,
visible at the right in the photograph, was chosen.
