Cambridge 2000: university: West Road: Institute of Criminology, 7
Description: university: West Road: Institute of Criminology, 7 |
Date built: 1875 |
A rambling Victorian villa, which most recently housed the
Institute of Criminology, until it moved into
a new building
nearby in 2004.
There was a small extension of the building at the right
in 1905 and another one in 1966, and more extensions at
the back.
JJ Thomson (the discoverer of the electron) lived here at the
beginning of the 20th century, until he became master of
Trinity College
in 1918.
The building was demolished in April 2010 (the same fate as most of
the neighbouring Victorian villas), to be replaced with a
new building
for various humanities departments.
