Cambridge 2000: King's College: West Road: Garden Hostel
This is one of the plain and simple (but not ugly) buildings
put up in Cambridge immediately after the Second World War. It is
surrounded by much greenery (the King's College Fellows' Garden
is behind the building), which helps. If this building were
surrounded by other buildings it would look drab indeed.
The lawn to the south of the building in the past had been
set up with tennis
courts in the spring, providing a quintessential English
scene. However in 2000 a parking area was overlaid instead,
and later in the year construction started on a
new building
located behind this one, which was finished in 2001. In
2002 the lawn was back.
