Cambridge 2000: Castle Street: Castle Hill
Description: Castle Street: Castle Hill |
Already in Roman times there was a building on this site, which
has good views over the Cam. In medieval times there was a
stone castle here, some of which ended up being used in the
buildings of various Cambridge colleges and churches.
The mound is not the highest point in Cambridge but it is not
far off, the physical geography of the city and surrounding
area is mediocre. The view from the top of the mound is not
great but does give a feel of the character of the city.
The view is especially open towards the west and so provides
one of the best places to watch sunsets in the city.
